CU Regent at Large – Candidate Forum Announcement

We are excited to announce a great way to spend a Saturday morning!

We will be hosting the

CU Regent at Large Candidate Forum on February 24, 2024, via Zoom from 10:00 – 11:30 am.

We will have prepared questions to ask the candidates, but we will be inviting you to submit a
few questions when you register on the form below.

Watching from the best seat in your house, you will get to meet the candidates and learn why this
is such a critical position.

The Colorado Democratic Party provided this CU Regent job description:
“The Regents of the University of Colorado comprise the governing board for the Colorado University system, overseeing the University’s budget, hiring the University’s president and other top University officials, setting tuition rates, and establishing the University’s top priorities. By electing Democrats as CU Regents, we make sure that every Coloradan has the opportunity to receive a quality education that leads to a good job and
successful life.”

Our candidates are Elliott Hood and Charles (CJ) Johnson.

Our moderator is Ishmeet Khalra.

Here are the candidate Bios:

Elliot Hood
Elliott is a former public school teacher, a former education non-profit leader, and is currently an attorney representing public school districts across Colorado. As a litigator, he handles complex and often high-profile cases for school districts. Elliott graduated from CU Boulder with honors and earned his J.D. with high honors from Northwestern University School of Law. Elliott has served in leadership on several public and non-profit boards, including a state commission on disability access, the Boulder Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the I Have A Dream Foundation of Boulder County. As a working parent, Elliott and his wife Caroline have two young boys, Alden and Michael. Caroline also works full-time for an education non-profit.

Charles S. Johnson

My name is Charles S. Johnson, aka CJ, candidate for CU Regent at-Large! Hailing from Detroit, my educational journey led me to the University of Colorado Boulder, where, amongst other things, I was honored to play quarterback on the 1990 National Championship team. With a commitment to CU that spans 35 years from student government to athletic director to my current role as a member of the Board of Trustees, my drive to provide greater access and opportunities for all students is well established. Currently as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Ball Corporation, I tirelessly advocate for equal opportunity and access for all. Please join me in my campaign to ensure that CU continues to be a beacon of educational, social and economic excellence for our great state of Colorado.

We hope you attend this very informative event. Please register by clicking on the link below and leave a question for the candidates.
